Charity Work

From the beginning of the school year until December, the main charity focus is the Shoebox Appeal for the “Trussell Trust”. We pack shoeboxes full of toiletries, clothes and toys and these are sent to disadvantaged children in different areas of the world. The mission is; "to show God's love in a tangible way to needy children across the world, and to share the good news of Jesus Christ", ties in very well with our school mission statement; "we give glory to God by developing our full potential and in our service to others", which is why we think of the Shoebox Appeal as such a worthy cause, and continue to support it each year. Students and staff contribute donations, items and wrapped shoeboxes.

Also, in early October, we raise funds and supplies for the Harvest fast day by CAFOD. This year we took part in our first ‘Brighten up for CAFOD’ day by wearing bright t-shirts, buying glow sticks and making a bright mural to pledge support for the community in our Year of Community

Between January and July, the school community supports one charity, through bake sales and competitions between form groups etc. In previous years we have supported charities such as, Macmillan Cancer Support, Birmingham Women's Hospital, Birmingham Children's Hospital, CAFOD, St Mary's Hospice. This year, we are raising for CAFOD World Gifts, which are a range of virtual charity gifts that will delight the people you give them to and help transform the lives of poor communities and families in developing countries. Year groups have come together to pick a CAFOD World gift they want to aim for and work together to attain that gift for someone who needs it. It has truly brought our school community together working for others. It embodies our mission statement of praising God by doing acts of service together.

Finally, during the last two weeks of each term, students and staff are asked to donate clothes, toiletries and food, which are taken to St Chad's Sanctuary. The Sanctuary is a voluntary project, supported by St Chad's Cathedral and the Salvation Army. It is a place of hospitality for asylum seekers, refugees and immigrants. The sanctuary are always extremely grateful for the contributions of our school.
